The children's audio CD of The Magical Island
(released March 2010) features the highlights of the live children's magician show into a studio-quality musical audio story that can be either a stand-alone piece of children’s audio literature or a souvenir
for children to re-live the excitement of the show.
On the album, Christopher tells this magical children's story and sings. It features the songs for the turtle, bird,
spider and pirate characters in the show with all music written and performed by singer and songwriter Elisabeth Blair.
This magic show follows the adventure of two children who find themselves on a magical island. There they meet a friendly cloaked magician who teaches them how to become magicians themselves.
They also encounter singing animal puppets that used to be children who have fallen under the spell of the pirates that live on the island. By not being afraid, our two little heroes magically break the pirate spell that has been cast over the island.
Children's magicians are often known for their tasteless jokes while encouraging children to bounce off the walls of your home. Instead (perhaps by magic) this show keeps children entertained and completely captivated by engaging their vibrant imaginations.
Children come up to help out and often the magic happens in their very own hands, all leading up to the story’s happy ending. The Magical Island show is a winning option on the menu of unique children’s party entertainment in London.
What do I need to provide?
I come all equipped. You provide the children and a quiet place to do the show.
I have a two hour birthday party – how does your show fit into the overall scheme of things?
Usually I encourage people to have 'showtime' start about a half hour into the party. This allows latecomers to arrive and settle in. It's good to not have anything too structured planned during that time anyways. Sometimes parents have a treasure hunt ready, or have crafts on hand to decorate magic hats or paint the map of the island. After that, the show lasts about 45 minutes, leaving another 35 minutes for the children to have tea, birthday cake and any final activity that may be planned before parents start to arrive again. "Pass the parcel" and "musical statues" are always sure-fire winners but if you want to do a less conventional option, check out these children's party games ideas.
What about an after school show?
Food is top priority for after school shows. After they've eaten, then they are able to enjoy the show.
The children at my party will be older than seven years. Can you cater for this?
I don't offer a show that is suitable for ages eight and up, however if you drop me a line I can offer a suggestion of a good source to find some children's magician options for that age.
I don't want to manage party bags – do you have anything to offer?
Often parents like to offer the souvenir CD album of the show to each child which makes for a great bedtime story album or car journey entertainment as well as being a reminder of the story that takes place during the show.
Can you wander about doing mix-and-mingle entertainment for children?
I do not offer this sort of children's entertainment, but I could suggest a good source in case that helps.
We'll have a lot of adults there too. Is there anything you can do to keep them entertained as well?
I actually perform a lot more for adults than I do for children, and have a variety of magical entertainment options for adults too. You can check out my London magicians website to see what we could do. Having said that, I always have adults come sit down to watch the show while the children do, so the 'big kids' often get wrapped up in it as well. I've seen many a Sunday paper get brought into the room wrapped in plastic that's never opened!
I won’t be hiring a hall, will this children’s magic show work in my home?
Yes absolutely! In fact this children’s show is particularly suited for taking place in homes. You may have already read, my approach to children's entertainment is not to get the children going bezerk. Instead, I captivate them with the show as they all sit and watch. What I aim to create is really the feeling of a theatre show for children.
